Summer 2012 FAQ’s
“You’ve got questions? We’ve got answers.”
Q: My child has never attended a Young Judaea camp before. Is this a problem?
A: No. Camp Tel Yehudah is a national camp. As a result, we have kids coming from all over the country and world. For many campers this is an experience to meet new kids from different parts of the country and to create new and amazing friendships. Also it is a great opportunity for kids who are active in Young Judaea to meet new friends from other regions.
Q: What is the weather like in Barryville during the summer?
A: During the daytime the weather is similar to that of the East Coast during the summer. Average temperatures are in the mid 80’s. During the night, we cool off to the high 60’s, low 70’s.
Q: What if I cannot afford to send my child to Tel Yehudah?
A: We recognize and understand that this is a period of financial difficulty for many parents. To help make this situation more bearable, Young Judaea offers financial aid. It is also recommended that you contact your local Jewish Federation, JCC and synagogue for further assistance.
Q: How do I apply for financial aid?A: Young Judaea offers limited, need-based camp scholarships. Only registered campers are eligible for consideration. The online scholarship application can be accessed at: http://telyehudah.wordpress.com/about/financial-aid/ Applications must be completed by March 1, 2012. The Young Judaea/Hadassah Scholarship Committees meet soon after applications are collected and families are notified if they have received scholarship in April. Please contact us for more information about scholarship requirements.
Q: What is the refund policy?
A: • All cancellations must be received by Camp Tel Yehudah in writing. A full refund of the deposit, less a $100 processing fee for one-session campers or a $200 processing fee for two-session campers, is available for cancellations received by Camp Tel Yehudah by March 1, 2012. All deposits will be forfeited after March 1, 2012. Fifty percent of the tuition paid will be refunded for registrations cancelled after May 1, 2012. No tuition refunds will be made for registrations cancelled after June 1, 2012 for first session campers of July 1, 2012 for second session campers. Further, no refunds will be given after the start of the camp session. If a child’s balance is not paid in full by May 1, 2012, that child’s enrollment is subject to cancellation and cancellation penalties shall apply.
Q: Do you have to pay the full tuition when sending in the application?
A: No. We have four different payment plan options. • Option 1 – full payment. • Option 2 – I will remit a second payment of half the balance by January 1, 2012 and will pay the remaining balance by May 1, 2012. • Option 3 – Please charge my credit card on January 1, 2012 for half of the balance and May 1, 2012 for the remaining balance. • Option 4 – Please charge my credit card monthly through May 1, 2012 in equal installments to pay off my balance. All camp fees are due in full on or before May 1, 2012.
Q: What types of credit cards to you accept?
A: Camp Tel Yehudah accepts American Express, Visa, Master Card, and Discover.
Q: What happens when my child arrives at Newark airport?
A: All campers should head to the luggage terminal (except those traveling as unaccompanied minors) where they will be greeted by Camp Tel Yehudah staff members who will then help them locate their luggage and put them on the bus heading to camp.
Q: What happens if my child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor?
A: If your child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor, a Camp Tel Yehudah staff member will meet them at their arrival gate in Newark Airport. They will then be taken to the luggage area where additional staff members will help them with their luggage and put them on the bus heading to camp. It is the responsibility of the parent to notify the camp office if your child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor. Additionally, if your child will be flying as an unaccompanied minor at the end of camp please schedule payment for the return flight with the airline directly. Camp Tel Yehudah is not responsible for paying this fee on your behalf.
Q: How may I communicate with my child while they are attending camp?
A: Parents may send messages to their children via sending letters and/or emailing. Information about our CampInTouch email service will be sent before the summer.
Q: How do I arrange to speak to my child on their birthday?
A: Please call the office 2-3 days prior to your child’s birthday to arrange a time to speak with them.
Q: Will I be able to know my child’s bunking information before the beginning of the session?
A: Bunking assignments are done immediately prior to the beginning of the session. Both parents and campers will have this information available to them on the first day of each session.
Q: Is my child able to make bunking requests?
A: Yes. Each camper is allowed two choices for bunking requests. Please be aware that we may not be able to fulfill all requests, but we will attempt to place each camper with someone he or she has requested. Cabins will not be assigned until right before each session begins.
Q: When do I get reimbursed for my child’s plane ticket to camp?
A: In order to reach as many Jewish teens as possible regardless of financial background, Young Judaea has made available a special travel subsidy fund. This fund is specifically intended to alleviate costs to families that need financial assistance to pay for flights to and from Tel Yehudah. Travel subsidy reimbursements will be processed after the end of the summer. Checks will be sent out during the fall after camp.
Q: My question isn’t addressed here. How do I get in contact with you?
