A Day at TY

The following is a sample of what a typical day might look like at Camp Tel Yehudah. Content may vary according to age group. On some days, the entire camp may participate in a special activity, such as a color war or Tisha B’Av commemoration. Overnight camping trips, day trips, and mornings of rafting are other variations in the daily program.

8:00am    Haskhama –  Wake-Up
8:30am    T’fillot – Morning Prayers    Together by camp Sun/Tues/Thurs  by small group Mon/Wed/Fri
9:00am    Mifkad Boker – Flagpole    Morning campwide gathering at flag poles
9:15am    Aruchat Boker – Breakfast     Meal with seating by bunk to start the morning together
10:00am    Nikayon – Cleaning     Campers are responsible for keeping their bunks and the surrounding grounds in order.
10:45am-12:00pm        Peulat Shichva – Unit Activity (Educational)    This period is devoted to exploration of the theme of each group through experiential educational programs.
12:00-1:00pm    Peulat Shichva – Unit Activity (Flexible)    Flex time for the staff to decide on activity for their Chug (unit): Extended education/Specialty area/Bunk time
1:15pm      Aruchat Tsohorayim – Lunch    The meal is often followed by a Shira (singing) or Rikud (dancing) session in the Chadar Ochel (dining hall).
2:00-3:30pm        Chofesh One – Free Period    During this time, sports facilities and pool are open for campers.
3:30-4:30pm    Z’man Bechira – Elective Period    Campers choose from a variety of recreational activities such as sports, video, jam band, arts & crafts, etc.
4:45-5:30pm    Peulat Kehila – Activity Rotation #1    Chugim (units) go as a group to one of camp’s specialty areas.
5:45-6:30pm    Peulat Kehila – Activity Rotation #2      (same as above)
6:30-7:30pm    Chofesh Two – Free Period    Time for campers to relax and enjoy themselves under general supervision.
7:30pm    Aruchat Erev – Dinner    (same as lunch)
8:45pm      Peulat Erev – Night Activity    This period is usually reserved for “fun” group activities like open-mic nights, scavenger hunts, as well as camp-wide activities such as plays
10:30pm    Peulat Laila Tov – In-Bunk Nightly activity with Counselors    Daily sikkum (closure) within each bunk; prepares campers to go to bed
11:15pm      Laila Tov – Lights Out

Shabbat:
Friday and Saturday schedules are different to reflect the special and relaxed atmosphere of Shabbat. Friday schedules include tfillot, a longer dinner period and Oneg Shabbat.  Saturday includes a late wakeup, a choice of different t’fillot, an “Israel Update” activity, and a period for Israeli dance.
