Job Descriptions

Camp Tel Yehudah hires staff to fill the following positions each summer. If you are interested in a particular position, please visit the staff homepage and fill out the online application when it becomes available for the 2012 season.

MADRICH/A (General Counselor)

Requirements:
One year of college or equivalent.
Experience working with children and/or teens
Some level of Jewish education (at least Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Hebrew school)
Jewish summer camp experience preferred
Ability to accept guidance and supervision
Direct Supervisor: Merakez (Unit Head)

The madrich/a at Tel Yehudah is first and foremost a positive role model for campers. The madrich/a must be able to identify and meet the needs of campers. The madrich/a lives in bunk with 12-16 campers and a co-madrich/a. The madrich/a is responsible for supervision of campers, discipline and evaluation. The madrich/a is responsible for implementing programming for campers.

MOOMCHEH/AH (Specialist)

Requirements:
One year of college or equivalent
Experience working with children and/or teens
Some level of Jewish education (at least Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Hebrew School)
Jewish summer camp experience preferred
Desire and ability to work with children
Ability to accept guidance and supervision
Direct Supervisor: Director of specialty area

The specialist at Tel Yehudah is first and foremost a role model for campers. The specialist is responsible for implementing programming in his/ her specialty area. All Moomchim (specialists) must assume additional responsibilities to the general camp program as indicated and assigned by Program Director. Specialty areas and requirements are as follows:

Omanut (Arts and Crafts):

Experience with and education in arts and crafts a must
Teaching experience preferred

The Omanut specialist is responsible for implementing Judaically themed arts and crafts projects for campers on a daily basis. The Omanut specialist must assist in the coordination of the Arts and Crafts program with other camp activities. The Omanut specialist will also be responsible for aiding in the creation of scenery and props for dramatic productions on an as-needed basis.

Ceramics:

Experience with and education in ceramics a must
Teaching experience preferred

The ceramics specialist is responsible for the implementation of Judaic themed ceramics projects. Ceramics specialists must check kilns for proper function and need for maintenance. Under the supervision of the head of ceramics, the ceramics specialist must also maintain a level of safety with regard to campers’ use of potentially dangerous supplies and equipment, by teaching and monitoring proper use of said equipment.

Ropes Course (High and Low)

Experience with Ropes Challenge Courses and/or climbing preferred
Teaching experience preferred
Prior certification in Ropes Challenge Course instruction preferred

The Ropes Course specialist is responsible for the safety and welfare of campers while on the Course. The Ropes Course specialist is responsible for checking integrity of equipment and reporting inconsistencies and issues with said equipment to supervisor. The Ropes Course Specialist must be able to lead constructive discussions with campers regarding group and individual performance with the goal of enhancing group dynamics. Regardless of prior training, a 3-4 day training program and ultimate certification is required.

Drama specialist:

Experience with dramatic arts preferred
Experience with stage equipment preferred
Teaching experience preferred

The Drama Specialist is responsible for the implementation of theater-based programs and will facilitate the production of dramatic scenes and plays.

Lifeguards (Waterfront staff)

Requirements:

Training and experience in waterfront activities
Current Lifeguarding certification
Current CPR and First Aid
Experience working with children

The Waterfront staff must be skilled in supervision of campers at pool and during river rafting trips. The Waterfront staff must teach and help coordinate camp’s waterfront and swimming activities.

Sports Specialist

Requirements:

Knowledge of rules of most sports
Ability to referee
Ability to set up sports according to knowledge of supplies and equipment

The sports specialist is responsible for the implementation of and assistance in implementation of athletic activities including competitive sports, athletic competitions and tournaments. The sports specialist must instruct and referee sports activities.

Teva (Nature) Specialist

Requirements:

Wilderness First Aid Certified
Experience guiding hikes
Knowledge of nature

The Teva specialist is responsible for preparing groups for hikes and overnights, maintaining equipment, and guiding hikes. Also responsible for environmental education programming in camp. Must prepare and implement programming during outdoor trips.
